Todi is situated in the middle of
the art towns of Umbria and some of Tuscany. The following
are within a range of 100 Kms.
ASSISI (Km 54) The Mystic town of St. Francis. In the
Basilica one can admire the famous frescos of Giotto, Cimabue,
Lorenzetti and Simone Martini.
BEVAGNA (Km 38) A pretty medieval town with the remains
of a temple and roman baths.
BOLSENA (Km 56) A village on he largest volcanic lake
in Europe. Trips to the island where in the VI century Amalasunta,
the queen of the Goths was exiled.
CASCATE DELLE MARMORE (Km 56) The highest waterfalls
of the Apennines. The fall of the river Velino is 165 meters.
CASCIA (Km 96) The town of Saint Rita surrounded by
the Apennines.
CASTIGLIONE DEL LAGO (Km 85) Medieval village on lake
Trasimeno. Boats to the Island Maggiore.
CITTA' DELLA PIEVE (Km 77) A little 1200 town with
characteristic buildings in red stone. Perugino was born here.
CITTA' DI CASTELLO (Km 94) A nobile town partly medieval
and partly renaissance with masterpieces by Raffaello and
Luca Signorelli.
CORTONA (Km 88) It was part of the Etruscan Confederation.
Luca Signorelli was born here and amnong the masterpieces
one can admire the "Annunciazione" by Beato Angelico.
GUBBIO (Km 80) A severe medieval town-state in a gothic
style and built on an already existing Roman town.
LAGO DI PIEDILUCO (Km 49) A delightful lake enclosed
between the slopes of the Apennines.
MONTECASTELLO DI VIBIO (Km 13) In this medieval village
one can visit the Teatro della Concordia, 1800, the smallest
theatre in the world.
MONTEFALCO (Km35) A medieval village known for its
wines and its woven materials.
MONTELUCO (Km 53) It is the geographical centre of
Italy, on the side of a beautiful mountain covered with forests.
ORVIETO (Km 35) One of the towns of the Etruscan Confederation.
Its Duomo is a gothic masterpiece and has works of Beato Angelico
and Luca Signorelli. It has an archeology museum.
PERUGIA (Km 37) It is the capital of the region. A
cosmopolitan town and is known for its elegant shops. It is
also a university town and full of museums, medieval and renaissance
churches and buildings.
SPELLO (Km 44) A medieval village near Assisi. One
can admire the works of Pinturicchio.
SPOLETO (Km 44) It is the centre of the famous Two
Worlds Festival. The romanic Duomo has paintings by Filippo
Lippi and Pinturicchio. There is also a Roman theatre.
UMBERTIDE (Km 71) A renaissance fortress-town along
side the River Tiber. Wonderful countryside.
